Refection for Rosh Chodesh Tevet

by Judith Golden

Deep winter
Deep cold
Crisp clear air and blankets of glistening snow

Chanukah lights blaze and then fade
Remaining as shadows in the deep darkness
Memories of a miracle

We struggle to keep moving
Against the extra weight of heavy coats
And boots and snowdrifts

Reminding us to slow down
Appreciate stillness
Proceed consciously
Allow more time for our journeys

Learning to embrace patience
As we long for growing light
As days slowly lengthen
